About Friends of Ziv Medical Center
The Friends of Ziv Medical Center, Inc. is a charitable organization run by volunteers to help the process of upgrading the medical services Ziv Medical Center offers to the community of northern Israel by fundraising for its capital and equipment projects and supporting its humanitarian work.
Founded in 2014 under the initiative of Dr. Raul Rosenthal who served as the organization’s first president Friends of Ziv has been headed since February 2016 by Rabbi Moshe Pitchon, who was another member of the founding board of directors.
Once the time for organization was over Friends of Ziv Medical Center launched a series of programs and activities to create awareness about the vita work performed by Ziv Medical in Israel and in assisting neighboring countries
On March 23-26-2016, FZMC hosted Mrs. Linda Futterman, the hospital’s coordinator of International Relations who visited South Florida.

On July 16th, 2016 FZMC invited Christian clergy to an informal meeting with Mr. Lior Haiat, consul General of Israel to Florida and Puerto Rico to learn first- hand about the situation in Northern Israel
On December 9, 2016, Dr. Salman Zarka spoke at the Riviera Parliament, the largest organization of Israelis in South Florida
Rabbi Moshe Pitchon presented a proposal to the US government and Christian organizations to join Ziv Medical in providing assistance to people in Southern Syria affected by the civil war in that country.
Through the year, Rabbi Pitchon and Dr. Zarka spoke at several synagogues and Jewish organizations in Orlando, Palm Beach County, Florida, New York, Baltimore and Los Angeles
February 26, 2017 Symposium
On Sunday, February 26th, 2017 at the Friedberg Auditorium of Florida Atlantic University, Friends of Ziv organized a Symposium to discuss how to provide more effective urgent medical humanitarian aid to the people of Southern Syria.
Dr. Robert Rabil professor of Middle East Studies at Florida Atlantic University and a regular participant at government sponsored roundtable discussions and forums, opened the event by explaining the situation in Syria.
Dr. Rabil was followed by Dr. Basel Termanini, vice- president of the Syrian American Medical Society, a nonpolitical, nonprofit, professional and medical relief organization, representing hundreds of Syrian American medical professionals across the United States. Dr. Termanini made a presentation of the medical assistance provided by SAMS in Syria.
Dr. Salman Zarka, Director General of Ziv Medical Center described the services Israel’s northernmost hospital has been providing since the first wounded Syrians showed surprisingly at the border with Israel on February 2013.
Pastor Nilsa Alvarez Morales explained how HILC, the initiative launched by the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC)/CONEL—the world’s largest Hispanic Christian organization, representing more than 40,000 American churches and another 500,000 globally—was ready to activate a network of professionals, already residing within Syria’s neighboring Islamic countries who are ready and willing to serve in safe zone areas in order to assist their neighbors until they are able to heal their nation from the inside-out as long as that may take.
The Revered Charles Burge from Christian Aid spoke about the work affiliated organizations are performing in the area, many times under extremely dangerous conditions.
The primary objective of the symposium was to convey the message to governments and private foundations that a group of organizations already actively helping the population of Syria was ready and able to help Syrian medical personnel to operate clinics in Southern Syria.
Because one of the most common wounds afflicting the downtrodden people of Syria as a consequence of the civil war are trauma to limbs ending in the vast majority of cases in amputations, to maintain the patient’s quality of life the participants are also ogled the possibility of creating a Regional International Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Peter Verbeeck the Assistant Governor of Area 8 and Past President 2013-2014 together with DVM Claudia Valderrama from the Hallendale-Aventura Rotary Club are mobilizing support among Rotary for Ziv’s efforts to provide medical assistance to the Syrian people.

July 7 Professor Alexander Lerner Director of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Ziv Medical Center and Clinical Professor at the Faculty of Medicine in Galilee, Bar Ilan University. During his Miami visit Professor Lerner lectured at the University of Miami, spoke at the Riviera Parliament, and also met with the staff of the newly established Trauma Center at the Aventura Hospital
Rabbi Pitchon and FZMC Advisory Board Member Isaac Benyamini attended Christians United For Israel Washington Summit on July 17-18. Christians and Jews united in support of Israel. Pastor John Hagee who founded the organization hosted Vice-President Mike Pence, Israel Ambassador to the US Ron Dermer, Former US Ambassador to the UN John Bolton, Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, via satellite, among others.
On July 27 FZMC was instrumental for CNN Latino, to interview at their studios in Miami the head of the maxillofacial department at Ziv Medical Center, Dr. Alejandro Roisentul. The following day Dr. Roisentul spoke at a luncheon sponsored by FZMC.
On September 13-17 Friends of Ziv had a booth at American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in Chicago to create awareness about Ziv Medical’s Center assistance to Syrian children.

The Ritz Carlton Sunny Isles Beach opened its doors on October 16 to an event in which Argentina’s Consul to Florida, Ambassador Gustavo Giusti celebrated the Buenos Aires’ legislature honoring Dr. Roisentul with a Humanitarian Award.
