FZMC at Florida Atlantic University
Dr. Salma Zarka, Director General of Ziv Hospital (left), Dr. Robert Rabil, professor of Middle East Studies at Florida Atlantic University, Pastor Nilsa Alvarez Morales, Dr. Basel Termini, vice-president of the Syrian American Medical Society and The Reverend Charles Burge from Christian Aid met on Sunday, February 26th at the Friedberg Auditorium of Florida Atlantic University.
The purpose of the ecumenical symposium hosted by FZMC Advisory Council member Dr. Meron Levitats, was to convey the message to governments and private foundations that a group of organizations already actively helping the population of Syria was ready and able to help Syrian medical personnel to operate clinics in Southern Syria
Rabbi Pitchon wrote a proposal he handed to Ms. Lourdes Aguirre of COHIMA and Eres to expand the Humanitarian Aid Program. He suggested lobbying the US government to use its influence to secure a “Safe Zone” 12.4 miles along the border with Israel (6.2miles deep) into Syrian territory. In early July US President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin agreed in establishing a safe zone in southwest Syria. Rabbi Pitchon also suggested the establishment of infirmaries, clinics, and dispensaries in 17 villages inside Syria within the safe zone. The proposal also suggested a training program for Syrian medics at Ziv. On November Ms. Aguirre shared with Rabbi Pitchon that Frontier Alliance International a Christian organization with the support of the IDF and Israeli hospitals was providing help inside Souther Syria. Dr. Alejandro Roisentul honored in the U.S. for his humanitarian work at Ziv
Dr. Alejandro Roisentul, head of the Oral and Maxillofacial Unit at Ziv Medical Center was honored this past October by the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Association (San Francisco). Dr. Roisentul and his colleagues at Ziv are changing years of hatred and misconceptions among the people of Syria by providing desperate medical assistance to the casualties of the Syrian Civil War.
Rabbi Pitchon and FZMC Advisory Board Member Isaac Bienyamini attended Christians United For Israel Washington Summit on July 17-18. Christians and Jews united in support of Israel. The pastor John Hagee founded organization hosted Vice-President Mike Pence, Israel Ambassador to the US Ron Dermer, Frmr US Ambassador to the UN John Bolton, Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, via satellite, among others.
Professor Alexander Lerner
On July 7th FZMC hosted Professor Alexander Lerner, Director of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Ziv Medical Center and Clinical Professor at the Faculty of Medicine in Galilee, Bar Ilan University. During his Miami visit Professor Lerner lectured a the University of Miami, spoke at the Riviera Parliament, and also met with the staff of the newly established Trauma Center at the Aventura Hospital.
Television Producer Haim Saban Learns About Ziv’s Work
In November Rabbi Pitchon met in Los Angeles, Ca. with Israeli-American philanthropist Haim Saban. Mr.Saban, a long-time supporter and donor of many pro-Jewish and Israel causes, has stated his main goal in multiple interviews: “I’m a one-issue guy, and my issue is Israel.”
